how I travel with hats

It’s no secret that I can’t live without my hats. When I go on vacay, deciding which one to bring is honestly a struggle because I usually want to bring them all. On my recent trip to Captiva Island, I brought my Faye medium from Gigi Pip and I had no regrets because it was so versatile and adorable. (Don’t forget you can use code MARIAXGIGI for free shipping if you decide to get this beauty for your next vacay😜)

Today I’m going to share my tips for traveling with big hats! I have taken many a plane ride with hats and it’s really not a big deal. When I travel with a hat, there are two ways that I go about it: wearing it on the plane or packing it in my suitcase. There’s a knack to each and I’m going to show you how I do it!

Option #1: Pack the hat in your suitcase

There’s a trick to packing your hat in your suitcase. If it’s not done properly, you can either crush your hat or end up taking up way too much room. Hats are delicate and should be treated carefully as to not misshape them in any sort of way. When I pack a hat, I pack a bunch of clothes and other items in my suitcase first. Then, I place my hat amongst the other items upside down (this is the key). Lastly, you can fill the hat with other items as to not waste space. When you pack a hat this way, it really hardly takes up any space and the surrounding clothes protect it from being crushed!

Option #2: Wear the hat on the plane

This option is fairly self-explanatory. Some people are nervous to wear hats on a plane in fear of looking silly, but it’s really not that big of a deal. I wear mine around the airport and onto the plane, then I simply tuck it below the seat in front of me during flight. This works best with shorter, domestic flights because I usually only bring a personal item on those. As you can see by the photo below, my hat and purse easily fit below the seat in front of me and I have plenty of room left for my feet.

Option #3: BOTH!

If you are going on a longer trip and want to bring two hats on vacation, go for it! Pack one in your suitcase and wear one on the plane. This is a perfect way to have options that’ll match all of your vacay outfits!
