my skincare routine
It seems like everyone is sharing their skincare routine and here I am just adding to the pile. However, the only reason I feel like it may be worth sharing is that it completely transformed my skin. I would love if any of these products could help anyone else!
First, I’m just going to describe my skin a little bit. I would say that as far as moisture goes, my skin is pretty normal. It doesn’t get overly dry or oily. I did notice some flaking and dryness in the winter, but my new moisturizer totally took care of it. My main skin problem has been acne and bumps on my skin. I used to get a lot of white heads as well as bumps all over my forehead. Here’s unedited photos of my skin before and after my routine:
Now, let’s jump right into the routine. My sister does a lot of skincare research and created this routine specifically for me, but I think it would work for a lot of different people! It’s pretty basic and even better, it’s not horribly expensive! The daily routine takes me 1-2 minutes, so it’s definitely not a big time commitment. I do the entire routine at night and I just wash my face and moisturize (steps 1, 3, & 4) in the morning. Without further explanation, you can click on the photos below to purchase my skincare products:
Step #1: cleanse
I wash my face with this Glossier cleanser and it is amazing. I wash my face both morning and night, as everyone should!
step #2: salicylic acid cleanser
These have been an absolute game changer for me. I used to have small bumps all over my face, especially on my forehead, but salicylic acid got rid of them completely. I simply dab this cleanser onto a cotton pad and rub it on my problem areas, or sometimes all over my face. It’s a little drying, but it’s totally worth how amazing they make my skin look!
step #3: moisturize
This is the most expensive part of my skincare routine. As a North Dakotan, I need a good moisturizer that actually does its job! I tried using cheaper moisturizers but they just didn’t do it for me. I’ve used both of these moisturizers and I highly recommend them both. The Clinique moisturizer makes my skin so soft and smooth and the OLEHENRIKSEN provides the same benefits and smells delicious. Either of these are great options and are worth the splurge in my opinion!
step 4: eye cream
This product is also pretty expensive but I really like it. Luckily, a little goes a long way so this product lasts a long time. I need an eye cream to reduce dark circles and prevent aging. It’s never too early to start! I apply this under my eyes both morning and night and have noticed an improvement in the appearance of my under-eye discoloration.
step #5: spot treatment
If I have any breakouts, I spot treat them with Mario Badescu drying lotion. You simply use a q-tip to reach some of the pink sentiment that settles at the bottom of the bottle, then dab it on your zit or breakout. I swear by this stuff because it dries up and visibly reduces my zits literally over night. It’s a miracle worker! $17 may seem steep for a tiny bottle, but I promise it lasts for a long, long time.
That is my entire daily skincare routine! It’s short and simple but it totally works for me. Here are a few extra things that I do occasionally as well as my favorite skin-enhancing makeup products:
occasionally: masks & scrubs
Every once in a while (about once a week) I like to do a mask or scrub! These two are my favorites and I seriously love them. The exfoliating scrub is a must for me to remove dead skin and keep my face smooth and dewy. The other mask just smells great and gives my skin a natural glow! They’re both super affordable and can be found at Ulta.
Lastly, I wanted to share the makeup products that I think enhance the dewiness of my skin. I think makeup is the final touch to showing off how great your skin looks! Here are the few face makeup products that I can’t live without:
There you have it! If you have any questions about my skincare routine, don't hesitate to comment or reach out!
Happy trails to you,
